Where to find current judicial vacancies
Judicial appointments in India are advertised through the relevant High Court, state public service commission or other designated recruitment authority. Recruitment rules differ by state, judicial service and post.

Legal framework and eligibility
Article 233 of the Constitution: District judge appointments, postings and promotions are made by the Governor in consultation with the High Court exercising jurisdiction. Article 233(2) specifies eligibility conditions for a person not already in Union or State service, including at least seven years as an advocate or pleader and a recommendation by the High Court.
Article 234: Appointments to the judicial service other than district judges are made by the Governor in accordance with rules framed after consultation with the State Public Service Commission and High Court.
Article 235: The High Court exercises control over district courts and subordinate courts, subject to the constitutional provisions.
Article 236: Defines "district judge" and "judicial service" for this constitutional chapter.
Article 237: Addresses application of these provisions to certain classes of magistrates by notification.
Read the Constitution of India on the Legislative Department website. The applicable service rules, recruitment advertisement and any binding judicial directions govern each particular selection. A law degree, enrolment, practice period, age limit, reservation rules and examination stages must be checked against the specific current notification.
How to apply for a judicial service examination
- Identify the recruiting High Court or commission and open its official recruitment notice.
- Read the post-specific eligibility, reservation, experience, age and cut-off-date provisions.
- Check the syllabus, examination stages, required documents, fees and deadline.
- Apply only through the designated official portal and retain the submitted application and receipt.
- Follow official notices for admit cards, examination changes, results and interviews.
